December, 2024: Auld Lang Signs

By Corey Sandler

I’ll have more photos and commentary in my blog next month.

But as I look back on 2024 for significant signs, I began to think about auld lang signs, old markers like these from travels past.

The Monstah

The Green Monster at Boston’s Fenway Park, little changed from the first opening day at the oldest still-operating baseball park in America, opened in 1912. Attendants inside the wall move markers by hand to indicate runs, hits, and errors. Photo by Corey Sandler, all rights reserved.

Room for the Night

50 Cents. One of my favorite sitings are “ghost signs” and abandoned advertising markers in big cities, here an 1888 hotel in San Diego, California. Photo by Corey Sandler, all rights reserved.

History Lesson

A mural in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. Well off the tourist path. Photo by Corey Sandler, all rights reserved.

Bang the Drum

Uncle Sam was watching, at this abandoned repair shop at what was once Camp Drum in far northern New York State. Photo by Corey Sandler, all rights reserved.

Get Your Kicks

On old Route 66 in Arizona, an old gas station and Greyhound bus stop has not seen much business in a long, long time. Photo by Corey Sandler, all rights reserved.
